I had the best Valentines day. I had been planning this for weeks and all I told my girlfriend was to take some vacation time off. Now and that I had a trip planned to last her a lifetime. I packed a bag for her and told her to dress for warm weather because when we hit our destination she was going to appreciate it, but I still wouldn’t tell her where we were going. She figured it out though because they announced it in the airport. I guess I didn’t think that part through all the way.

We arrived in Kauai, Hawaii a two days before Valentines day and can I just say, all we managed to do was go to the hotel and passed out we were so tired from the trip. We had gotten in late afternoon and the warm air, and having woken up early and flown across the continent, we slept all night. When we woke up the next morning I had a plethora of activities planned for us. We rented beach bikes and bought some cheap snorkels and rode along the beach to an area that didn’t have so many people. We got off our bikes and just swam around. It was absolutely gorgeous and she loved all the fish we saw. That evening, we we went to a huge Luau on the beach and met up with some other tourists who told us about all the activities in Hawaii. They had been coming here for years and had stayed on all the islands. Finally when we were too tired to think anymore, much less dance, we went to bed.

The next morning was Valentines day and I told her we were going for a hike. I was once told that Wailua Falls is the most romantic spot in the world. She said she would pack a picnic basket and that we could make a day of it. I hadn’t planned on that, but it seemed like a great idea to me. It really was the most romantic spot I’d ever been, and getting there was a beautiful little hike. It seemed like it was now or never, so I got on one knee and asked her to marry me. Everything was perfect and she said yes as long as next year it is on one of the Hawaii cruises so we can see all the islands next time.

Really no Hawaii holiday is complete without a trip to North Shore.  North Shore is one of the most famous surfing destinations in the world and has some of the biggest on the planet.

Even if you don’t surf, if you are in Hawaii, you have to see North Shore. The waves will simply blow you away.

North Shore is home to many world renowned surfing tournaments. So if you time your trip to Hawaii right, you could become a spectator to some of the world’s best surfers. Surf tournaments are held in the area from November to Late December. Some of the tournaments include: The Van’s Triple Crown of Surfing, the O’Neill World Cup at Sunset Beach; and the Billabong Pipeline Masters at Ehukai Beach (Banzai Pipeline), The Quiksilver Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational.

The contests are held in the winter because this is when the waves are at their most volatile. Winter is not a time to learn to surf in North Shore. Summer provides much safer conditions for those more amateur and less experienced surfers.

IF you are a surfing aficionado, there is no better place to stay than the North Shore while on your Hawaii vacation.

The Turtle Bay Resort is great because you can get that isolated feeling of being on some of Hawaii’s more remote beaches without ever having to leave Oahu and the sense of being close to the city.

No matter what you like to do, Oahu offers a great number of opportunities for relaxation and fun. If you don’t stay near North Shore you must drive out and see it, the views and the waves will amaze you and they really are something you can’t miss!

Maui is the second largest island in Hawaii.  Also called the “Valley Isle,” it is located between two volcanoes and includes a great variety of terrain.  With its valleys, steep ravines, and stunning beaches, Maui’s climate varies between mild temperatures, high humidity, trade winds, sunshine, and rainfall.  Because of its irregular terrain, conditions change from one area to another.

Maui is famous for whale watching, where Humpback whales come to shelter between the islands during the winter season.  Their trek from Alaskan waters to the warm waters off of the island allow for excellent viewing, where they cluster in pods to enjoy the balmy temperatures as they mate and give birth.

With its beautiful rain forest on the northern side, Maui has been able to keep much of its area free of exploitation.  However other areas of the island are ideal for all of the exciting outdoor activities that one expects from the Hawaiian islands.  Hiking, camping, surfing, kayaking, fishing, and surfing are just some of the ways you can enjoy a Maui vacation.  Browsing the museums and galleries, shopping in some of the excellent stores, or dining in one of the world class restaurants are other activities you can find in town.  Night brings its own magic, with everything from a walk on the starlit beach to dancing til dawn at one of the local discos.
