I was getting prepared for a move to Vancouver. I must say that I was putting it off, as I was busy with work, and I did not really know what my new apartment would be like, as I had secured it over the phone. Oh, I knew how many rooms I had to deal with, but I had yet to receive an email with photographs, so I could not picture it. I have to be able to picture things in my mind, in order for me to get a move on it, so to speak. And I was dealing with the fact, that for the most part…I do not lead an organized life.

I had always been aware of that to some extent, but preparing for a move brings it all out into the open. I was faced, with myself. And in this case, it was not a great thing to look into that kind of mirror. For what it revealed, was that I had collected too many unnecessary things, and I now had to decide what to keep and what to toss. And then I had to decide how to pack those things that decided to keep. It was time for me to become organized, in a way that I had not been before…as moving from house in Florida to my apartment in canada was going to be a long journey, not just in terms of mileage, but in terms of … well, everything.

I started by making a list. I know that people do that all the time, but for me it was something new. As I said, I lead a somewhat unorganized life as an artist. I just take it as comes and wait to see how it may work out. But I knew that this move was something that would require a bit more of my focused attention To be honest, that simple list helped out quite a bit. It focused me in to the importance of getting my utilities turned on before I crossed the border…I knew the when I reached my new home, I’d at least be able to turn on the lights. It helped when it came to packing, and deciding upon which things to toss and which to keep. It really helped in every way, to be just bit more organized…and sitting here in my new place, I can honestly write that, while I still my be a bit “out there” at least I’m a bit more organized about it all.

Using wood for heat inside houses has a long and rich history.  From the early times of man, fire has protected people not only from the elements, but from predators as well.  Later on, many thousands of years later on, the people living in the Victorian era also used wood and fire to heat their homes, but this also became considered to be a classy addition to ones home and decor.  Everyone knows that sitting around a warm and crackling fire ads a coziness and a very homey feel.  A fireplace now added to the environment of one’s home in a different way.

Just as with everything, fireplaces have changed over time, the style and the technology have both made leaps and bounds to the way in which the fireplaces are used and designed and the way in which they function.  The various techniques of the casting of them, have given designers many more options, for many more styles and creative expressions.  The basic fireplace however still remains the same, which are the elements of the insert and the surround.  The insert is the place where the actual fire is burned, usually constructed with cast iron, and decorated with a variety of tiles…different colors and different patterns which will all add a personal touch to your home.

The surround is the part of the fireplace that as the same suggests, surrounds the insert.  This section is made with a variety of materials, the most common are iron, marble, wood or granite.  Both of these elements of the fireplace provide the homeowner with a myriad of options, and can be a great way to create a much more quaint and charming atmosphere in your kitchen, front room or dining room.  You can choose from the old fashioned style with a mantle, or a sleek design that runs flush with your stucco walls.  When you add a fireplace to the architecture of your home, you will feel the warmth, not only of the temperature, but of the vibe and the feel you will now be able to experience.

Your home away from home may be as close as your own backyard.  Gardens to plant, vegetable plants to tend, flowers to water, a portable spa to soak in with friends and with family, these are the things that allow us to all take a step back from what is not really important, in order to take a look at what really is…important.  A backyard spa allows you to sit, and think, and to talk, and to relax.  Creating a space for such a retreat just takes a bit of design, a bit of planning.  Where to install your hot tub is an idea to consider.  Many people choose to build a gazebo around the tub, which in my opinion, is great.  The scents of cedar or oak lattice work, enhance the experience of nightly soaks.  It creates a gateway to a world that is free from trouble, free from worry…it is the kind of sanctuary that every home should have.

Not only do cabanas and gazebos provide protection from environmental conditions, they increase your living space, taking your life outside into the fresh air.  Sometimes just sitting aside the hot tub while it is bubbling away, reading a book is enough to give you a bit of time away.  A bit of the sound of water.  Not to mention the time you will spend actually inside the tub, your muscles, your joints and your mind relaxing.  It is an escape from the world, needed every now and then which allows you to continue on in the world, or to see new ways of looking at that world.  Gazebos which surround a hot tub?…the design options are limitless.  Whether you choose to drape them in tiny white lights, or plant vines of jasmine, your time in your portable spa will be enhanced, through visual means and through scents and sounds.

Years ago, a friend of mine experienced a spinal cord injury. She found herself, somehow, locked in a second story apartment. Her boyfriend had left for work, and because of the way the lock on the door was set up, she could not get out. Michelle, that is her name, needed to get to work, it was a corporate job that did not tolerate tardiness. Well, it was, and still is now, Buffalo Exchange, a second hand clothing store that was well on its way to becoming corporate, and five minutes either way, meant the difference between having a job, and not having a job.

She was a tall girl, and thought that she could simply jump from the balcony. It was only about 12 to 15 feet after all. She jumped. And just afterward, she laid on the grass in the apartment complex, and could not get up. When Paul, her boyfriend came home from work, she was still there in the courtyard. She had broken her back. She spent months in traction, unable to move. She said that Paul would lie under her traction table, and read books to her. Once she was recovered enough to be taken out of traction, she had surgery that involved putting a metal rod into her spine.

After that, it was water therapy. Hot tubs, from choosehottubsdirect.com, provided her not only with relieve from her discomfort, but actual help for the healing of her injury. Her internal organs had been kept still, through the months of traction, and her spine, well–enough said. The warmth of the water, the buoyancy provided throughout the soaks, released the pressure from her spine and rejuvenated her entire body. And now, more than 20 years later, she is just fine. The water therapy helped her to regain her strength physically, and also served to help her regain her mental strength as well.

A little goes a long way, especially when it comes to home renovation. Do you really need an entire room painted pea soup green? Nope, that would be overwhelming! Here are some tips and tricks to upgrade your home at the drop of a hat, without spending a fortune!

Area rugs are a great way to spruce and upgrade up any room in your home. They add a bit of richness and can change the attitude of a room in a very positive way. If you are looking to add a little bit to a room in your house it is good to find small tables to fill a room. In the past, hot tubs were considered expensive, a luxury that only the very wealthy could afford.  But in current times hot tub prices have come down as the advances in technology have made the manufacturing process more efficient and cost effective.  Prices range from very low, for the portable models, to moderate in the models that are installed into the ground or into thearchitecture of ones home.  This is making it possible for more people to enjoy the healthy effects that relaxing in hot tubs will provide.  For not only does it do wonders for relieving stress and easing the aches and pains of sore, tense muscles, there are proven medical benefits for those suffering from a wide variety of the common ailments of the modern world.

Hydrotherapy is fast becoming a treatment for physical and psychological challenges.  As mentioned previously, stress levels are reduced by soaking in hot, bubbling water, as well as those afflictions such as insomnia, anxiety disorders and chronic fatigue.  One of the forms of this kind of therapy involves soaking in water with the temperature between 90 and 94 degrees.  Each soak should be timed at between fifteen and twenty minutes only, and then a cool soak or shower is recommended, which serve to bring the rush of blood flow through the body.

This is a treatment for sprains and muscle tears as well, the hot then cold, then hot then cold serves to provide those injured areas with the blood flow necessary for faster healing times.  For sprains or issues dealing with the back, the water temperature should be raised a bit to around 102 degrees.  For those suffering a simple common cold, or those with the nerve disorder in the back, sciatica, no cool shower is recommended following the soak, just straight to bed for a restful and peaceful sleep.  There are many benefits to owning a home spa, and with such affordable hot tub prices, many people now can enjoy nightly rituals that will heal the body and the soul, and give one the energy to tackle the next day out in the world of work, and traffic and life.

When you think about home renovation you normally think about paints and what you can do to make the inside of your house sparkle and shine. Renovating your home inside could be as simple as purchasing a new paint color for some accent walls or trying out some new blinds in the master bedroom.

Something else that is normally the last thing to be thought about is the landscaping and what you will do with your outdoor living space. Because remodeling an outdoor living space can get quite pricey, you need to think about what you really want your backyard to have.

If you have a pool in your backyard, you may want to think about resurfacing it. It can be a lot cheaper than having a whole new pool made up for you. And if you have always wanted a spa, but can’t feasibly put it into the pool thinking about buying an above ground one.

Sites like the one of Steve Barbarich and choosehottubsdirect.com has luxury spas at great wholesale prices along with amazing customer service.

Also think about your outdoor cooking space as well. If you are person that likes to grill outside, you need to decide how you will encompass that into your new backyard. Do you want to have a whole outdoor kitchen unit built or just a simple gas grill or charcoal grill? It really depends on your lifestyle and where you are located in the United States.

The next thing you need to take into consideration is what kind of actual vegetation you want in your backyard. You need to maximize your space and properly use it. For example, are flowers really a good idea if your dog is just going to eat them? Decide if you want to put grass in your backyard or what kind of patio furniture you want.

It’s really all about making your space livable for you and your family.
