Releasing Empathy in Salt Lake

I really like Southern Utah. It’s absolutely stunning. It’s visually tantalizing, temperate for most of the year, from what I hear, and the people are extremely helpful and nice. At first, I noticed that no one was in a hurry, then I figured out that there is not much here to get done in a hurry. What a great concept, which helped me not worry if I’d make my flight when I checked out of a great hotel Salt Lake is known for, because since I did figure out that not much gets done expeditiously, I checked out just a little earlier than I normally would have. But, that was alright with me, because I too caught the laid-back bug.

I wasn’t feeling well when I arrived to Salt Lake City. I was driving a rental car which my company provided for my trip and I spent the night at a Flying J in Nephi, which was on Interstate 15, and I really was hoping to make it into Salt Lake City the next day, but my nausea said otherwise. I informed the hotel that I’d be a day late and they were quite accommodating. When I did arrive, I had three business meeting scheduled and I barely remember attending them, that’s how sick I was. After the meetings, I crashed big time in my hotel room, which led to an epiphany, it felt kind of like I was a compact flash card that was full and needed to be downloaded. All of my meetings on my business trip led up to my illness. I was overloaded with the tales of hardship with all the companies I visited. The economy is not done doing damage yet, and I, apparently, had too much empathy. So, my nausea was my body physically telling me to release all the woes of my clients and move on. Once I figured this out, I felt so much better, like a load was lifted, so with the little time I had left on my trip, I decided to get back to nature. I found much solace in Southern Utah and my bearings. There’s something to be said about taking a step outside of a situation to see the bigger picture.
