Beijing Continued Olympic Tradition

Beijing is an amazing and historic city in China. It also has the distinction of hosting the 2008 summer Olympic games. This is a time honored event that features the top athletes from all over the world. It was an extremely spectacular occasion, and featured entertainment aspects, as well as the sports. It was watched throughout the world, and many people traveled to China and stayed in one of the five star Beijing hotels in order to attend it. The opening ceremony was amazing and served as an appropriate introduction to this competitive and prestigious event. The winning star athletes usually go on to become major cultural icons in their own countries. This was certainly the case with Michael Phelps, the swimmer from the United States who won a record breaking 8 gold medals.

The Olympic Games occur every four years. There are medals awarded for the top three performers or teams in each event. This is an tradition that was first established in 1904.
